(see this users gallery) No matter how well you prepare for a group photo, someone is bound to close their eyes, have a strange expression, look away, etc. That’s when Photoshop comes to the rescue! Below are instructions for “swapping heads”:
1) Open the group photo that you think looks the closest to being perfect – minus the “bad” photo of the person(s) you are replacing.
2) Open the photo that has the “good” shot of the person you’d like to replace.
3) Using the lasso tool, draw a circle around the “good” photo of the person. Make sure you select “feather” and choose 2 pixels – this will give it a softer edge.
4) “Right Click” and choose “layer via copy” – this makes a copy of the person’s head or feature you are replacing on the “bad” photo.
5) Using the move tool, move your “good” copied head over to the “bad” head on your original almost-perfect photo.
6) If the head isn’t the right size, resize it by selecting Ctrl-T, then hold the shift key down while you resize.
7) Once the head is the right size, then move the “good” one on top of the “bad” one. You can change the opacity of the top “good” layer if you want to see through it to make sure the facial features are roughly lined up and are the same size. (tip: I like to line up the eyes or eyebrows if the eyes are closed.)
8) If all looks good, then change the opacity of the “good” head back to 100%. Then choose the erase tool. Choose a soft-edged brush and erase around the “good” head to blend with the “bad” head. If it’s just as simple as someone having their eyes closed, you can even erase down to just the eyes if you’d like.
9) If the color looks off, you can go to “image” and “brightness/contrast” and play with that until it looks good.
10) If all looks good, then go to “layer” and “flatten image”.
11) Repeat with other heads if needed.
12) Save as a .jpeg and you’re done! No one will ever be the wiser that you replaced a “bad” head with a “good” one. :-)
p.s. on the family photo, I swapped out 4 heads - marked with arrows. |
